Epstein-Barr and MS: New Clues Link a Common Virus to Nervous System Damage

Researchers at UC San Francisco found new evidence that Epstein-Barr virus may help drive multiple sclerosis by provoking an abnormal immune response inside the nervous system. In people with MS, virus-targeting CD8+ T cells were far more concentrated in cerebrospinal fluid than in blood, and one EBV gene was active only in MS patients, suggesting a possible disease-specific viral trigger
